We are pleased to announce that the SLO Beaver Brigade will be a host organization for two Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College Corps Fellows for the 2025-26 school year.
In January of 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom and the leaders of California’s college and university systems launched the largest state-level investment in a college service program in California history. College Corps has provided more than 10,000 college students with opportunities to support and learn from community-based organizations working in three priority areas: K-12 education, climate action and food insecurity.
We’d like to introduce you to our fellows, Marco and Lily.
Meet Marco

Hi, my name is Marco Miguel, and I am originally from Mexico, living in the U.S- best of both worlds! I am majoring in Industrial Engineering, transferred from Cuesta and Allan Hancock college to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I am enthusiastic about finding smart, efficient ways to make things work better. In my spare time, I enjoy being physically active, getting my body moving and other times I like doing different activities, from watching a random movie or other times I will exercise to keep my mind focused on something different. The name itself “Beaver Brigade” caught my attention and made me wonder if beavers was the focus of this organization, which it is! Besides the name, something that made me want to join is the new experience I’ll gain from this; it could be interacting with and meeting new people, to further develop my teamwork and leadership skills. I enjoy hands-on projects even though I don’t like being in the sun for too long, which is very peculiar to me.
Meet Lily

My name is Lily Rodriguez and I am a current 2nd year Animal Science student at Cal Poly! I’ve always had a passion for animals and how they impact our environment, so picking the Beaver Brigade through College Corps was a no-brainer! I’m really interested in learning more about how beavers affect our environment and what I can do to improve their success and survival!
We have a lot of plans for Marco and Lily this school year and we’re grateful and excited that they’ll be working with us. Expect to hear more from them as the school year progresses.
